Oh lord, there’s another Scream movie coming this year and get this, it's not going to feature the Sydney character, but takes the story of the last movie and sets it in a new location…New York City. I guess they are going to follow the lead of Jason Takes Manhattan for this one, what’s next Ghostface in Space?
Well looks like we are getting two Dracula spinoff movies this year. The first being the long, long-awaited Last Voyage of The Demeter, the story of the ship that brings the vampire to London. The second is Renfield, the bug-eating servant of Dracula. I guess this will be to Renfield from the Dracula story what Igor was to Victor Frankenstein eight years ago…or Mary Reilly was to the 1996 Jekyll and Hyde movie. Take one of the obscure characters from the book and bring them into the limelight. It could be interesting if done the right way.
Well, the people at Disney are going to try it again 20 years later (god it’s been that long?) but the Haunted Mansion is getting an all-new reboot. Okay, this sounds like the setup for a bar joke…a priest, a professor, and a paranormal investigator walk into a …..okay let me stop now….try to help a woman after she moves into a haunted house. With a release date of mid-July, we will see if this one is any better than the mess from 2003.
Okay, this will be interesting to see how this pans out! The Exorcist….yeah….I know. Well, it’s said that this will be a direct follow-up to the 1973 mega classic and release 50 years after that landmark film first scared the shit out of people of the early 70’s. It’s pulling a Halloween trick by ignoring all other previous sequels other than the ‘73 original. Well let’s face it, the others kinda ignored themselves anyway after all who remembers The Exorcist 2: The Heretic or The Exorcist 3, oh or Exorcist The Beginning? So no high hopes for this one…not even God can save us from this I fear.
Other horror movies set to release in 2023 are A Quiet Place: Day One, a follow-up to The Nun, the 10th Saw installment plus a new Insidious, The Boogeyman, and The Accursed. Looks like the latter half of 2023 is going to be an interesting one indeed.
