The Gray Man of Smoke and Shadows by Todd Sullivan

This is Todd Sullivan’s sequel to Butchers and it picks up soon after the first book ends. Sullivan doesn’t miss a step in this follow up and brings new excitement, action and horror. He brings new characters and expand the world he created in the first book.

The story begins with Hyeri on the run but loonking for her uncle Sea to kill after making her life hell. As she finds him taking advantage of a young girl, she goes to kill him but the Gwanylo catches up to her and tries to take her. In the process, the uncle gets away, the young girl is injured and Hyeri does more to antagonize the people looking for her.

But there was something different about her uncle and Hyeri is determine to take him down. The Gwanylo is looking to limited the damage to the vampire community and looks for a scapegoat. And the young girl’s father gets a chance to redeem his useless ways in order to find his daughter. Will the young girl be rescued or will she become an unintended victim of the hidden society of the Gwanlyo?

Sullivan does a great job of contiuing the storyline but finding a different story as a way of building upon the universe he set up. He brings a new horror that delves in the supernatural and real life that scares anyone with young kids. The mix of old and new characters brings a little familiarity with a new storyline that brings the action and horror.

I recommend this book to any readers looking for an new look at a vampire story with plenty of action. I do suggest you read Butchers first. You can get this book at the usual places for books.

A Child Alone With Strangers by Philip Fracassi

It’s funny that the title for this book sounds like it could be a horror novel but the cover are gives off a different feel. It comes down to the description and that it what caught my attention. After reading it, Fracasi knows how to tell a story that is intriguing and scary at the same time which leads to a good read.

The story is about a young boy named Henry who has a devastating incident and it leads to several life long issues and leaves him different from before. The one day he is kidnapped from his school and brought to the woods. Now he is alone and scared but feels that there is something out in the woods that is dangerous. More dangerous than the kidnappers. All he has is the thoughts of his father to keep him from losing it. Will he survive the kidnappers it he does what he is told or will something more evil get to him and everyone else?

Fracasi has created a long novel that manages to keep you enthralled throughout the story with its mix of horror, thriller and drama. His characters are well written and keeps you wanting to know more whether it’s the protagonist or the antagonist. They are fleshed out, three dimesional people who are not just good or bad but many shades of gray. The story is never dull and makes you want to keep turning the page.

I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for an interesting horror novel that manages to mix genres that keeps you turning the page. You can get this book at Amazon and other book sellers.
