JUDSON MICHAEL AGLA ARTIST STATEMENT

I began the Black Door series so That I could focus on shape and form with the simplest medium one black fineliner marker. This allowed me to put away any considerations about color and to solely limit myself to the capabilities of the one marker, using line and a “stipple” treatment for shading. With consideration to abstract form, I aimed to create solid objects by binding together intersecting smooth and rigid smaller forms, tying them together like ribbons. Near the end of this series, I began to accent some pieces with a slight touch of color, but only as an afterthought as not to influence the desired objective that I have described.
